Overview of Vacuum Systems

This talk will give an overview of various vacuum systems, from low to ultrahigh, with an emphasis on ultrahigh vacuum (UHV). Historically, and in some cases pedagogically, lower vacuum systems are a prerequisite to higher vacuum systems; this is partly the reason for the emphasis on UHV systems. This talk will contain the general theory of pumps, pressure gauges, sealing techniques, etc. accompanied by examples.
